      2Who is Magie Sailing?
A broker is a professional who mediates the sale or rental of a vessel on behalf of their clients, protecting their interests throughout all phases of the negotiation.

You'll have the advantage of relying on professionals who, with their knowledge of the charter market, can select the best deals. Renting a boat through Magie Sailing won't incur any additional costs compared to a "do-it-yourself" search because the customer is not responsible for commission fees.
      4Catamaran or sailboat?
Una crociera su una barca a vela o un catamarano è il modo migliore di vivere le proprie vacanze, ma vi sono alcune differenze tra i due tipi di imbarcazione che possono essere utili nell’orientarvi nella scelta. The catamaran offers larger volumes, more spacious cabins, greater privacy; it also experiences less rolling, so it is more suitable for those who are seasick. A disadvantage is the higher cost for the same length, both of leasing and mooring in port. For those who, in addition to relaxation, dream of adventure and the romance of sailing with wind, we recommend an experience aboard a monohull sailboat: it has lower operating costs and significantly higher sailing performance.
      5How long is a cruise?
Whether you are a neophyte or an experienced sailor Magie Sailing offers different types of experiences: from day trips and mini-cruises, to half-day trips and aperitifs on board. The classic charter, which is more frequent, is weekly in duration with embarkation on Saturday afternoon, return on Friday evening to the boat base, and disembarkation on Saturday morning. During this type of cruise you can experience boat life to the fullest and visit multiple locations. It is also possible to rent a boat for a longer period, that is, 14, 21 or more days.
6How many people do you need to be to rent a boat?
The yacht charter market offers boats of varying sizes and for different budgets available. Catamarans have four en-suite cabins as standard, so the ideal number of guests is eight. But there are even larger and more accommodating catamarans for a larger number of passengers (up to 12). If the group is larger, you can opt for a flotilla: guests spread out over two or more boats and share the same travel schedule, rejoining at bays and moorings.
7How much does the nautical charter cost?
I prezzi del charter sono stabiliti dai fornitori di barche e dipendono da diversi fattori: tipologia di barca, i catamarani e i motor yacht hanno in media costi più alti, l’anno di costruzione, e la stagione (agosto ha le tariffe più alte). Costs increase according to on-board equipment such as air conditioning, generator, watermaker up to luxury services, available on our platform. The best time to book your vacation is in winter, when early booking discounts are offered and there is more choice. We can distinguish: Lease/rental costs: include the boat and all electronic, safety and other equipment provided by the charter companies on board (pillows, blankets, pots, pans, dishes and all useful cooking accessories; breakfast placemats; nautical charts and pilot books) and mooring for the first and last night at the nautical bases. Assistance from the shipowner during the cruise period is also included. Rental/Charter Fees are VAT included and are usually paid in advance in 2 installments: 50% at booking and 50% at 30 days before departure. These terms are approximate as they are defined by the Charter Companies. If the departure date is less than 30 days, the balance is required in a lump sum. Mandatory costs: also called mandatory extras, are defined discretionary by the charter company and must be paid according to the day of departure. They usually represent a mandatory cost for final cleaning or other services such as tender and outboard motor, bedding and kitchen gas cylinder. Non-obligatory costs: these are those extras that, chosen by the client, can make the vacation more enjoyable or fun such as bbq, sup, snorkeling equipment, etc.. should usually be booked before departure to ensure availability and paid at the same time as boarding. Rates do not include: fuel, galley, transportation and transfer expenses to base, expenses in ports, marina or buoy, skipper and hostess. In fact, these costs can vary widely depending on client needs, weather and other factors.

      THE NAUTICAL CHARTER

      1What is nautical chartering?
Yacht charter is regulated by the so-called Nautical Code (Legislative Decree 171 of 2005, as amended). Yacht charter is actually an English expression that has now entered common parlance to refer to various types of use of pleasure boats for tourism purposes.
2What is the difference between lease and rental?
There are different types of contracts for the use of recreational units, regulated by legislation. The Lease of a boat, (Art.42 of the Recreational Boating Code) is the contract by which one of the parties (the lessor) undertakes for consideration to cede the enjoyment of the pleasure craft for a specified period of time. The lessee exercises navigation and assumes the responsibility and risks thereof. If the operation of the boat requires a boat license, the party to the lease must have the necessary license, or at least there must be a person with such a requirement on board. The lessee assumes all responsibilities of navigation. The Chartering of a pleasure craft (Art. 47) is the contract by which the charterer, in consideration of the agreed charter fee, undertakes to place at the disposal of the other party, charterer or cabin charterers, the pleasure craft for a specified period for recreational purposes. The chartered unit remains at the disposal of the charterer, under whose employment the crew also remains. Chartering assumes the boat is crewed, that is, with a professional skipper who has all the qualifications and certifications to operate a boat commercially. Most Charter Companies enter into leases; in cases where the client does not have a boat license or does not feel able to command the boat, trusted skippers may be recommended, who are hired directly by the client according to private agreements between the parties.
      3What is cabin charter?
More and more people are traveling alone, and a boating vacation is a great way to make new friends. Whether you are traveling alone, as a couple, or with a friend, you can choose to purchase single boarding or rent an entire double cabin and share the vacation with other people you will meet on board. Thus, the cost of the cabin charter is for the individual berth to which extra expenses such as final cleaning and linen are added. Embarkation is usually on a Saturday at 6 p.m. at the chosen boat base, where the skipper and other group members will be introduced. After a short briefing, where the skipper will show the boat and cabins will be assigned, we will go to the nearest supermarket to galley (food and beverage shopping for the entire week). Expenses such as galley, diesel fuel and moorings are divided among the group with a common cash box. The skipper's food is borne by the crew. Depending on the routes chosen and weather conditions, the skipper, will consider whether to depart immediately or the next morning. On Friday we return to base with the possibility of staying on board until the next morning, when we say goodbye to fellow passengers for checkout.
      4The exclusive boat rental
In this case the boat will be at your disposal and you can fill it entirely according to the available berths and your needs. This is the type of cruise is chosen by groups of friends, whole families, even a single couple, who will want to fully enjoy all the interior and exterior spaces of the boat, and decide for themselves what to do during the cruise. This type of embarkation is recommended for everyone, experienced people and even newbies.

      THE BOOKING PHASE

      1The option
In case you have found the boat suitable for your criteria, we recommend that you ask for an option. The option allows you to temporarily reserve a boat for a couple of days while you arrange the transfer and purchase airline tickets. While the boat is under the option, third parties will be prevented from booking the selected yacht. However, options have a maximum duration of a couple of days and therefore it is very important to confirm the charter before it expires. You can also notify us and extend the duration of the option.
      2How to book
If you are interested in confirming a quote, you should notify your agent promptly. Your rental reservation becomes confirmed upon receipt of payment, which is followed by the signing of the contract and general terms and conditions. Rental payment is generally made as follows: 50% of the rental price at the time of booking while the remainder of the balance should be made within 5 to 6 weeks of departure. Payments should be made by bank transfer while all additional costs, both mandatory and optional, will be paid at check-in.
      3The charter contract
The contract, which will be entered into with the Charter Company, regulates the general conditions relating to the provision of a lease/rental service. This will state the duration of the lease, duties and rights of the parties. The contract must be signed and brought on board. It will be the responsibility of Magie Sailing to forward the necessary documentation to conclude the contract to the client. The charter company will be the supplier of the boats and the responsible authority during the boat trip.
      4Bail
The deposit represents the insurance deductible of the boat itself, which covers any accidental damage caused by passengers. The deposit is blocked on a credit card upon check-in at the departure boat base and released after successful check-out.
      5The cancellation policy
If you wish to cancel the charter you must inform your advisor as soon as possible. The cancellation penalty is determined in accordance with the charter conditions of the boat provider (charter company) as stated in the contract.
      6Vacation insurance
It is possible to take out an insurance policy with our partners Pantaenius through Magie Sailing during the booking process. This product, designed specifically for clients chartering a boat to spend peaceful vacations, offers insurance of the security deposit only or a package with a whole range of guarantees including charter cancellation. It is not possible to take out insurance for cancellation caused by bad weather during the charter week. BEFORE LEAVING

      1Embarkation and disembarkation
The standard charter duration in many countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, France, Spain,) is usually 7 days, Saturday to Saturday. Check-in takes place on Saturday afternoon, officially from h18:00: the boat's equipment is checked and its condition inspected. In cases where the extra "early checkin" is purchased, the boat is delivered early, from h14:00 on Saturday. Return to the berth (departure nautical base) is expected by h17:00 on the following Friday, with the full tank of diesel fuel done, under penalty, possibility of sleeping on board and disembarkation by h9:00 on Saturday morning. Between Friday evening and Saturday morning, checkouts are carried out with verification of the condition of the boat and equipment delivered at departure. The use of a standard protocol during these phases is necessary to give the operators time to check and clean the boats as well as prepare them for the new charter. Any repairs or replacement of inventory items are done in the period between checkout and check-in of new cruise guests.
      2Role of the skipper
The Skipper is the captain and is in charge of navigation and safety on board. He has the responsibility and his decisions are unchallengeable. The Skipper is not in charge of cooking. The skipper has a cost that varies depending on the provider of the boat, the area, the size of the boat, and its type. Usually prices start from 200€ per day, and this price does not include food during the week that will have to be provided by the guests. The skipper is usually paid in cash directly at the base on the day of departure. Each skipper needs his own cabin. In some countries such as Croatia and Greece it is possible for a skipper to charge an already fixed rate for his daily board (e.g. 30€ per day). The skipper's job is very demanding, so cooperation is essential if requested. The skipper does not participate in paying for moorings and fuel.
      3Hostess Role
The hostess' duties are to clean the common areas, do the galley and prepare meals. In case there are different needs be sure to communicate them to our counselors. In case you need a professional chef, we ask that you notify us in advance. Each professional crew member must be included in galley planning and be provided with their own cabin.
      4The itineraries
Before leaving for the cruise you can agree on an itinerary with the skipper based on your interests and his knowledge of the sailing area. A Magie Sailing consultant is always ready to give you advice and guidance on the best itineraries. However, these may be subject to change due to sea weather conditions.
5What to carry in the bag?
It is preferable to carry soft duffel bags on the boat so that they can be stored in the appropriate lockers and lockers. Trolleys and hard suitcases are not recommended, both because of the risk of scratching boat furnishings and because of their bulkiness. Large amounts of clothing are not necessary; comfortable clothing, shorts and swimsuits and especially a windbreaker or sweatshirt are preferred, even in summer especially for the evening. It is recommended to bring sunscreen, hat and sunglasses on the trip. Comfortable, non-slip shoes.

      DURING THE CRUISE

1What do you do on a cruise?
A boating vacation allows you to combine moments of leisure and fun with moments of pure relaxation. In the morning you sail to discover new coves where you can swim and snorkel among breathtaking seabeds, or stroll the beach and practice paddle boarding. Multiple coves can also be visited during the same day if sailing time permits. Usually you sail for five hours a day without any problems, then fatigue prevails. That is why it is advisable to break up the sailing with bathing and relaxation, breaking it up again between morning and afternoon. In the afternoon before sunset you move to the bay where you will anchor for the night or to a marina. Then you can choose whether to dine ashore in one of the local small restaurants to enjoy local specialties and take a walk to discover the local culture or dine on the boat under the stars.
      2The galley
In the boating industry, galley means the food supply to be brought on the boat. It is possible to purchase food from supermarkets near the marina of departure or request our operators for a transfer to reach the nearest shopping centers or even take advantage of the extra galley service on board after filling out a Provisioning List. We recommend purchasing an amount of water equal to 2 liters per person per day for each person on board and fresh foods that are easy to cook such as pastas or salads.
      3Cooking on a boat
On the boat you can certainly cook! Boats are equipped with all the standard (crockery, pots, pans, cutlery, dishes) but also with all the accessories needed for cooking. The larger and more spacious the boat, such as a catamaran, the more optional accessories you will find on board, including coffee maker and even microwave. Cooking on board is an unmissable time of conviviality and relaxation!
      4The weather
Although the weather tends to be fine in the summer seasons, it is possible that some days the wind and sea conditions may force a change of itinerary or require sheltering in the harbor to pause until safe sailing can be resumed. Guests are responsible for the cost of the harbor. In case of bad weather, alternatives such as organizing shore excursions, trekking, visits to museums or wineries, and participation in local events can then be considered.
5The overnight stop in the roadstead or harbor
This decision is affected by factors such as personal needs, weather conditions, or the need to charge the boat's batteries or replenish water supplies. The advice is to plan at least one day in port during a charter week and to book in time to be sure of finding a place, especially in high season. "Buoys" are also an excellent alternative to anchoring, especially during windy nights and on those islands where the seabed does not allow easy anchoring. These are often placed in protected marine areas so as to avoid ruining the seabed while anchoring by plowing through submerged vegetation. They are managed by consortia or private individuals and require payment of an entrance fee. Spending the night at anchor is one of those must-do experiences, lulled by the sea and surrounded by a starry sky.
6The cost of mooring in the harbor
The price varies depending on the sailing area, the size of the boat, and the season. It is usually a rate calculated per night. Marina services of electricity and water are not always included in the mooring fee. The first and last night in port for most rentals is included.
7The use of electricity in the boat
On a boat you can charge cell phones using the 12-volt power and usb sockets that are now standard equipment on commercial boats. If, on the other hand, you wish to bring devices such as computers or hair dryers that require 220volt, we will suggest a boat with an inverter or generator on board. If you choose a boat without a generator or inverter, the 220w outlet will only work when you are moored at the dock.
      8Useful tips during the cruise
The boat should not be left unattended outside of moorings in marinas, even when moored at the buoy there should always be at least one crew member on board. Night sailing is not prohibited, but caution is recommended; if the itinerary includes night travel this should be agreed in advance with the skipper who may refuse for safety reasons. In the event of an accident, damage, or breakdown, you must promptly notify the rental company's base manager to receive the necessary technical assistance.
